Welcome

Welcome to my little ‘experiment’ – an e-book written with input from anyone who wants to affect the plot and outcome of a crime fiction novel. Anyone and everyone can vote (you don’t need to have read my work before). Cast your vote one day and then watch your plot choices come to life six days later!
The plan is to write the book over a 12-week period, starting Wednesday 25 November but you can join in at any stage of the process – just read the earlier chapters online.
Each week you’ll vote on how you want the next chapter to unfold, using different scenarios I put forward. At the end of the short voting period, I’ll have six days to write that chapter reflecting your directions. Think of it like a ‘choose your own adventure’ except majority rules and there’ll only be one book/plot sequence at the end of it.
Title: Coming Home
Plot: Aussie FBI profiler Sophie Anderson returns to Australia to solve her brother’s 28-year-old murder.
Once Coming Home is finished, it’ll be available as a free e-book.
Find out more about how it will work, the schedule, my competition (scroll down), and make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you vote.
Competition
Over the course of the 12 weeks, you can also email me to go in the draw to have one of the main characters named after you. Email info@pdmartin.com.au and include your name and the fact that you’d like to be in the draw to have a character named after you.
Who can vote?
Anyone can vote. You don’t have to be a Sophie fan. You don’t even need to have heard of me or my main character before. Just follow the progress of the book to date, and vote for the outcome you believe would work best for the given chapter.
You can vote every week, or just once. If you are new to my work, you might like to read the backstory.
How long do you have to vote?
Voting will only be open for 24 hours, capturing most time zones during a time you’re likely to be online. The poll is automatically closed off at the pre-determined time.

Dear Ms. Martin,
I wish Coming Home would be available in book form. But, I will still read it as much as I am opposed to reading books in that manner. Great idea though! Anyway I can read about Sophie is a good reading day. Your books are amazing. Many fans in New Jersey! Am in the middle of Killing Hands. Can’t put it down. Looking forward to Kiss of Death! Be well.

I love this idea. I have to admit, I have never read any of your books but I am picking one up tonight to read. Any favorite one that I should read first?

Hi Francine – I love it when readers start with the first book in the series, Body Count. I personally prefer to read other authors’ series this way too. Enjoy!
